Effective Sept. 17, 2009, BOOSTER SEATS are now required by Alaska State Law for children over 4 years old and under 8 years old, who are under 4’9” (57”) tall or less than 65 pounds. Please make sure drivers know that all drivers must comply with this law for Girl Scout field trips. For more information, visit www.carseatsak.org.
Program events make great field trips for Girl Scout troops or individual Girl Scouts attending with a parent. Some program events are also open to Girl Scout families and friends. Most program events are open to Girl Scouts and chaperones only (no tagalongs) and require an accompanying adult (leader or parent) to stay at the event with the girls.
How do I sign up for a Council-sponsored program event?
Complete an Event Registration Form (Scroll to the bottom for the link) and submit payment to the Council Office. (We can not hold spaces for your troop without a registration form and payment.) We are happy to accept the following forms of payment:
Cash – In person at the Council Office
Checks – In person or mailed with an accompanying Event Registration Form to the Council Office
Credit Card – In person or by mail/fax with an accompanying Event Registration Form, or by phone at the Council Office
What if I’m signing up my daughter individually (without a troop)?
Complete the Event Registration Form with your daughter’s name, complete and sign the inset box, and submit with payment. Most programs require you to stay at the event with your daughter.
When can I register?
Unless specified otherwise, registration for 2010 program events (Jan. through May) is now open. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis until the event reaches capacity or until the registration deadline (see individual listings for registration deadlines -- usually about one week prior to event date). If an event reaches capacity, we will gladly put you on a waiting list and contact you if we receive a cancellation or more space becomes available. You will not need to pay for an event until your space is confirmed.
What about popular programs?
If registrations exceed capacity for a particular event on opening day, a lottery will be held from all registrations which are in the office, accompanied by payment, by 5:00 PM on the opening day.
What about cancellations?
Full refunds are available if the Council is notified at least 2 weeks prior to event date (unless otherwise noted). This gives us a chance to contact troops on the wait list and give them time to register before the deadline. If no troops are on the wait list, full refunds are available if the Council is notified at least 1 week prior to event date (for weekend programs, the Friday one week prior). If a medical or family emergency occurs and the Council is notified within two business days after the event, refunds will be made on an individual basis. If the program is canceled, your payment will be refunded.
What else do I need to know?
Once registration and payment are processed, you will be handed, mailed or e-mailed a confirmation letter with any additional information about the program, including event location. Please read the letter carefully and call the Council Office with any questions.
