Join Girl Scouts of Alaska

Who can be a Girl Scout?
Girl Scouts is open to all girls in grades K-12, regardless of race, creed, nationality, or socio-economic status. Girls may join at any age. Girl Scouting offers a continuous program with six different age levels:

Girl Scout Daisies (grades K-1)
Girl Scout Brownies (grades 2-3)
Girl Scout Juniors (grades 4-5)
Girl Scout Cadettes (grades 6-8)
Girl Scout Seniors (grades 9-10)
Girl Scout Ambassadors (grades 11-12)

How do girls participate?
The most well known Girl Scouting experience is through troops, which are groups of girls of similar age/grade. Troops are led by well-trained adult volunteers. Troops meet regularly and participate in a variety of activities that reflect the girls’ interests. These range from high adventure camping trips and leadership development workshops to field trips and one day arts and sporting events. All Girl Scouts have an opportunity to develop skills and mark achievements by earning progressive recognitions such as badges, patches and pins.

Are troops the only way to participate in Girl Scouts?
No. In addition to (or instead of) joining troops, today’s Girl Scouts may join individually or as members of interest groups that explore everything from camping to career options. The Girl Scout program is flexible by design, and it can be delivered through thematic activities, lunchtime groups, council events, and even foreign travel opportunities!

How much does Girl Scouting cost?
Annual Girl Scout membership dues are $12. No girl will be denied membership for financial reasons. In addition, girls in troops pay modest troop dues to cover the costs of activities and materials. Camps and special events have separate fees. Financial assistance is available for all Girl Scout programs.

Are uniforms required?
Uniforms are not required in Girl Scouting. Typically, girls choose to purchase a sash or vest to display recognitions.
