I’ve been on the job as Girl Scouts of Alaska CEO for six months now, and I’ve been having a blast.
These past six months have been jam packed!
The yearly auction in Juneau was a great success as was our Leadership Luncheon in Anchorage. Dr. Kathy Hopinkah Hannan, National President and Board Chair at Girl Scouts of the USA was our special guest at the luncheon this year. Kathy grew up in poverty on a Native American reservation in Wisconsin and went on to become an advocate for women in leadership roles.
Then, in May, we hosted Encampment 2019, Mission Discovery. What a great way to kick off summer! Girl Scouts of the USA CEO Sylvia Acevedo joined us at Encampment and shared her story of grit, education, and Girl Scouts with all the Encampers. Hopefully all of you who were at Encampment got to meet Sylvia. She’s truly inspiring!
We had a great cookie season last year and are looking forward to fall product kicking off soon. Nuts and candy here we come!
As summer is officially coming to a close, we are looking ahead to another great year of Girl Scouts. For us, summer means camp. This summer we brought Girl Scout day camps to Western, Southeast, and Southcentral Alaska, and of course, we had resident camps at Camp Togowoods and day camps at Camp Singing Hills.
We’re so exciting to kick off another great year of Girl Scouts with you all! Let’s make it a year full of learning, adventures, and friendship!
Yours in Girl Scouting,
