CEO Corner: Camp, Membership Renewal, Collaboration with Mrs. Obama

Happy Women’s History Month!

Spring is in the air and we completed another cookie season! Despite the social distancing, masks, and all the different curveballs that came with this cookie season, we saw girls having fun, meeting their goals, and learning everything about being a cookie boss and entrepreneur. We know parents and volunteers work double-overtime during cookie season to ensure our girls have the best experience possible. Thank you.

Along with spring comes our membership registration for next year. We have an awesome new opportunity to have a program with Former First Lady Michelle Obama. She has rewritten her book, “Becoming” to be geared to young readers. Mrs. Obama will host a special program for registered girls and adults only on May 6. Everyone registered for MY2022 by April 30 can attend. Save your spot by April 30 at Keep an eye on our social media pages for new details.

As a part of our spring membership renewals, we are offering full scholarships again to any girl who would like to be a Girl Scout. Girls and adults can renew their membership by September 1 and new girls can sign up with an extended year membership by July 30.  Everyone that is signed up for 2022 can watch the Mrs. Obama program free.  This is a great time to invite a girl to join Girl Scouts and ask girls who may have lapsed memberships in this past year to come back.  The full scholarships will last until May 31.

In addition to the program with Mrs. Obama, there will be badges and programs the girls can do throughout the summer and fall. We’re very excited about this collaboration. We’re looking forward to a more “normal” year where girls and troops can meet together as we have in the past.

Speaking of excitement—we are very thrilled to be able to offer camp this year, even if it is in a more limited capacity. We always have girl safety as our top priority, so we have adapted the camp season to make sure our girls and our staff are as safe as possible. When registration opens at the beginning of April, be sure to sign your girl up before our sessions fill up. We look forward to a Girl Scout Reunion Encampment next summer and full camp at Togowoods and across the state. We can’t wait to see everyone again. I’m planning a big group hug for Encampment, so get ready!

In addition to in-person camp, we will be offering some virtual camp as well. This doesn’t mean just sitting in front of a computer all summer—there will be outside opportunities and family activities.  Stay tuned!

As I write this, it’s exactly a year from when we shut down our cookie sale and went into hibernation.  It was a long, stressful year. Thank you for sticking with the Zoom meetings and missing friends and activities.  I’m filled with excitement for this next year. I hope you are too.
