Hello summer! I’ve been checking the weather reports council-wide and have seen some sunny days almost everywhere. That must mean it’s time for Encampment and camp!
We’re having our first Encampment since 2019, and we’re really excited to see everyone get together soon. This year’s theme is all about the outdoors. Girls and volunteers told us they want to spend time outside and learn new skills. Encampment is a great place to see old friends and meet some new ones (isn’t there a fun song about that?). We can’t wait to see everyone again.
Speaking of camping—I spent a day last weekend out at Camp Togowoods helping to get organized. Our camp hasn’t had girls singing and learning and having fun for two years, and we’re ready to welcome you back! Tents have been put up, games have been dusted off, and the canoes are ready for races! We know it’s been a long time since girls got to go to sleepaway camp, so please contact us to ask any questions.
In addition to sleepaway camp at Togowoods, we’ll be having day camp at Camp Singing Hills and in communities across our council. You can check out all the opportunities here. I need to tell you, though, our camps are very popular this year, so you should sign up immediately. Several slots are full, but we do have waiting lists and some openings.
We are still looking for camp staff! If you know of an extraordinary person who wants to make a positive change for girls, send them our way. Our camp jobs are posted here. Send good applicants our way!
Our spring and summer membership renewal is well underway. If you haven’t had a chance to register your girl or your troop, there’s no time like the present! Let us know if you need any help at 907-248-2250 or customercare@girlscoutsalaska.org.
May and June is the traditional bridging time and we have been seeing great social media posts of the girls taking their next steps. Keep sending us photos at customercare@girlscoutsalaska.org.
Thanks for all you do for Girl Scouts. We appreciate all of your work. I hope you and your families have a safe and fun June. Let’s all get outside and enjoy everything Alaska has to offer!
P.S. We held an open house in our “new” Council headquarters. We made a fun video showing off our new space for those who couldn’t be here in person. Watch as Phoebe takes you through the new space!
We also got our new sign, so now we feel 100% moved in. Thanks to Rasmuson Foundation and Parker Smith and Feek for their generous donations to help us build out the space and to purchase the new sign.
