Girl Scouts of Alaska Announce Departure of CEO

Message from the GSAK Board of Directors

Dear Girl Scouts of Alaska Family,

Happy New Year—I hope your holidays were restful and enjoyable.

I write to you today to let you know that Leslie Ridle, our CEO for the past four years, has let the GSAK Board of Directors know she will leave Girl Scouts of Alaska later this year. While this is a sad announcement for the board and staff at GSAK, we are full of gratitude for Leslie’s service to the mission of Girl Scouts.

Leslie’s contributions leave GSAK in a strong position to continue serving Alaska girls for years to come. Among many achievements during her tenure, Leslie implemented a customer-focused approach to serving our members and volunteers and used the COVID-19 pandemic to springboard the council to a multi-platform vehicle delivering innovative Girl Scout programming to girls throughout Alaska – and beyond.

To ensure that we have the right person to carry on Leslie’s work, the GSAK board has formed a Transition Committee and engaged The Foraker Group to assist us through their Leadership Transition service. Our search process will reach out to our volunteers, caregivers, and supporters and we will cast a wide net for potential candidates. The process for replacing Leslie will be thoughtful and thorough—we don’t expect the transition to happen until later this spring.

The GSAK board is confident in our future, and while we will miss Leslie, she is leaving GSAK healthy and thriving. We thank her so much for this.

Your ongoing support of Girl Scouts of Alaska makes Girl Scouting a special place where Alaska’s girls can grow in courage, confidence, and character. We will keep you informed of our progress as we move through this transition.  You can contact me with any questions at mbarker@girlscoutsalaska.org, or 907.331.3057.

Very truly yours,

Mitzi C Barker, Board Chair
