Hello Girl Scouts!
My name is Emily B. I am a Cadette in Girl Scout Troop 436 and I am the representative of the Girl Scouts of Alaska on the National Girl Scout Advisory Board.
The National Girl Scout Advisory Board is made up of a group of middle and high school Girl Scouts who were selected to represent their council, make recommendations, and influence decision-making processes for Girl Scouts of the USA.
A typical Advisory Board meeting has either the host or a guest speaker explaining a certain aspect of the Girl Scout function and behind-the-scenes processes. The presentations are both informative and interactive, giving us Girl Scouts chances to express our opinions and share our thoughts. Also, the speaker often asks for questions, giving the Girl Scouts opportunities to clarify certain aspects of the presentation.
I really like how everyone’s opinions are respected, valued, and used on the Girl Scout Advisory Board. I joined the Board around seven months ago. Each girl has a two-year term, and mine began mid-July of 2023. Since then, I have learned so much. I am incredibly grateful for everyone who has made it possible for me to be part of this experience. Not only is it educational, it is fun and gives me a chance to interact with people from all over the country. If you are a middle or high school Girl Scout, and you enjoy working with other people and learning new things, I would encourage you to consider applying to the National Girl Scout Advisory Board.
Yours in Scouting,
Emily B.
