Governance

Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Council's financial records by selecting, subject to ratification by the Board, a firm of independent accountants to examine annually the accounting records and financial statements of the Council; reviewing the results of the annual audit or review, as well as any recommendations pertaining to accounting practices, policies and procedures, and making appropriate recommendations to the Board; periodically reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of the Council's internal systems of controls and financial reporting procedures and making reports about these reviews to the Board; and making any further investigations to inform itself as to the conduct of the Council's financial affairs.

Responsible for the corporate health and effectiveness of the Board. Its responsibilities include identifying and recommending to the Board the optimum mix of Board members who reflect the diversity of the council (girls we serve). The Committee also is responsible for Board development, which includes orienting and training new Board members, helping match them to Committee assignments in collaboration with the Board Chair.

Responsible for monitoring the financial status of the Council; and periodically reviewing the Council's financial policies, including investment policies, and making appropriate recommendations to the Board

Fund Development Committee toggle arrow

Responsible for reviewing, assessing, and improving the Council's fundraising efforts; establishing annual fundraising goals through a multi-faceted approach including individual donor cultivation, annual appeals, corporate/foundation solicitation, communication and outreach activities, and special event planning; providing leadership in generating contributions to fund the general operating and capital expenditures as defined by the annual budgets and projected by the Finance Committee; and developing long and short-range fund development strategies.

Membership Connection Committee toggle arrow

The Membership Connections Committee (MCC) allows adult and girl members to get involved in Girl Scout of Alaska (GSAK) council governance. MCC members are appointed by the Girl Scout of Alaska Board of Directors with the primary responsibility of sharing information about Girl Scouts of Alaska up to the Board of Directors and down to the membership.

Property Committee toggle arrow

Responsible for monitoring the usage of GSAK's properties, including making recommendations to the Board regarding maintenance and future usage
