April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and while a month is hardly
long enough to show our gratitude for all that you do, we want to show
you that we see, recognize, and appreciate you. Volunteers are the
heart and soul of Girl Scouts. We could not offer the programs we do
without our wonderful volunteers. Thank you for lending your energy,
talent, and time to the girls.
Please join us for a
celebration all month long in 2022:
Week of April 4th: Take some time for
YOU! Relax with peaceful meditation, do yoga from the comfort of your home, or get up
and dance to some Disney with the whole family (or
just yourself, we don’t judge!). Finish the week off with a fun coloring page featuring our 2022 cookie
mascot: the Koala!
Week of April 11th:
Girls, this week is for you to show your volunteers appreciation!
Nominate your favorite volunteers above for a chance to win a $20 Girl
Scout Shop gift card and recognition. We are holding the drawing April
21st at our Community Open House (where there will be an
activity for the girls to do for our volunteers as well!).
Some ideas to show your volunteers just how special they are:
- Collect photos from your troop of your favorite Girl Scout
moments and arrange them in a slideshow or poster board with the
headline “Because of You…” and present it to your troop leader at
your next meeting!
- Surprise the troop leaders with a party
at your next meeting and take turns sharing what you appreciate most
about them.
- Send us your favorite photos of you and your
troop leaders to be included in a slide show played at our Open
House!
April 21st: Join us for a community open house at the Girl Scouts of Alaska
council office from 4:30-6pm. Meet the staff, tour our new
building, network, and enjoy food, drinks, and fun! All members of our
community are welcome to attend and we encourage girls to come. We
have a fun project planned for the girls to do for the volunteers! We
have a participation option for girls and adults outside the Anchorage
area, too.
April 22nd is Girl Scout
Leader’s Day. On this day we celebrate all things Leaders and
give extra kudos to you. We are forever grateful for you and all that
you do for the girls and community.
Week of April
25th: Volunteers keep an eye out on your mailbox and
inbox for some fun surprises!
GSUSA Awards
GSAK relies on a network of 1,500 dedicated volunteers to lead
troops, chaperone events, coach LEGO robotics teams, and lead Women of
Science & Technology Day workshops – and that’s just the tip of
the iceberg!
We recognize our talented volunteers’ dedication and commitment and
believe it is important to honor exemplary service and commitment to
Girl Scouts of Alaska and Alaska’s girls, which is why we accept award
nominations at any time.
Awards are presented each year at the Adult Learning Summit, Service
Unit Meetings, and/or other appropriate venues.
